Wapiti was created out of an immediate need in rural healthcare. In 1996, a small Iowa hospital was experiencing a major shortage impacting patient experience, and care. Former owner and physician leader, Dr. Brad McDonald stepped in to ensure care continued by creating an organization so clinicians could be paid and patients would still be seen. What started as a solution to a Friday night staffing gap evolved into a mission-driven company founded on integrity, reliability, and responsiveness to the communities it serves.
That same people-first approach has guided Wapiti’s growth, including the acquisition of Siouxland Staffing Services in 2012, which expanded staffing support for nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and the acquisition of Emergency Practice Associates in 2018. These milestones strengthened Wapiti’s footprint across the Midwest and Great Plains while reinforcing its commitment to rural healthcare.
