This month, the Wapiti Provider Spotlight shines on Jennifer B. PA-C!
Jennifer has been working with Wapiti since Aug. 2020. Her medical journey began 7,400 miles in the aftermath of 9/11. We asked Jennifer to tell us more about herself and why she chose a career in healthcare.
Family
I met my husband in surgery in Afghanistan. We’ve been together for twenty years this fall. We have a very vibrant four-year-old.
Why did you become a PA?
I became a scrub tech for the Operating room thru the Army so I could pay my way thru college. But shortly after September 11th, I found myself on a Forward Surgical Team doing trauma surgery in Afghanistan. At the end of that tour, two surgeons told me I had a natural ability that was hard to find and that I should be serving the community in medicine. Their encouragement gave me the confidence to go for it.
What do you love most about what you do?
As a provider, I love meeting people where they are, in their struggle, being present to listen, and doing my best to solve the puzzle.
What are your hobbies/interests?
Travel to islands, Scuba diving, snorkel, bike, cross-country ski, swim. I love exploring music with my little son, teaching him to cook, practice taking care of gardens and composting, teaching my little guy about all things plants and animals, how to travel, experience new cultures and food, experience language and people, how to understand and connect with all things. My hobby is doing the work of my life to help quietly.
Thank you, Jennifer for all you do for rural healthcare! Wapiti is fortunate to work with some of the most talented, dedicated providers in the world.
