Hospital staffing concerns are a priority for hospital CEOs. A recent survey conducted by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) indicates that personnel shortages ranked as the top issue confronting hospital CEOs in 2021. Deborah J. Bowen, FACHE, CAE, president and CEO of ACHE states, “Both long- and short-term solutions are needed to address the shortages in critical front-line staff shown in our study to ensure hospitals have workforces that can meet the demands for safe, high-quality care both today and in the future.”
The survey was administered to CEOs of community hospitals (non-federal, short-term, non-specialty hospitals). ACHE asked respondents to rank 11 issues affecting their hospitals in order of how pressing they are. Results are based on responses from 310 executives.
